Bikya refers to the Arabic word for resellable clutter. Therefore, it is only prudent that a news site would employ this name, for there is much clutter in Egypt and the surrounding region that must be sorted through, in order to truly gauge the inner workings of a country and a region long fraught with dictatorship, harassment and violence. Bikya Masr is committed to getting as much information out to its readers as possible. Our goal is to provide original content from our range of contributors. This will include news reports, analysis and opinion of Egyptian and regional news. Essentially, Bikya Masr is local news for a global audience, without the confines of investors or a political agenda. Since its beginnings, Bikya Masr has broken a number of top news stories that include the murder of Marwa el-Sherbini; the deportation of Travis Randall; and the anti-fasting campaign by Egyptian police.
