The Simcoe Reformer is a daily newspaper covering Norfolk County in rural southwestern Ontario. Agriculture is the main industry in this county of 60,000 people. However, the Lake Erie shoreline makes the county a popular tourist destination. The Simcoe Reformer covers agriculture and tourism extensively.
With its motto, We Put Local News First, the Simcoe Reformer puts a great focus on those issues of local importance, whether it be a little league ball game or how farmers are dealing with the latest crisis, and anything in between.
The Simcoe Reformer has had great success with its local coverage. In 1999 the newspaper won its first National Newspaper Award (NNA) for local reporting. This was followed by an NNA nomination in 2000 and a second win - as well as a nomination - in 2002. The newspaper was also honoured for best investigative report for 2002 by the Canadian Association of Journalists.
