The Kingston Whig-Standard is one of Canada's oldest newspapers. It was established as the weekly British Whig in 1834. It merged with the daily Standard in 1925. In 1933, The Whig-Standard became a morning paper. The Companion section included each Saturday is a collection of feature stories of local business people, artists, and writers, short-story fiction or book excerpts, and reviews of films, books, and local theatre.
